Scruffy-Looking Nerfherders We.

January 28, 2011

Have you ever had the urge to shoot somebody in the face, but were afraid of the negative consequences? Have you ever wished that your first-person shooter was more portable and in full 3D? Have you ever had an annoying roommate? If so, then Nerf is for you! (more…)

The World of Mirrodin is now Besieged by the Phyrexian (Part 1)

January 23, 2011

Hey everybody! This is the first Magic: The Gathering article I would like to add to expand our geekery to the fullest.¬† This is the perfect time now that we are just a week away from the Mirrodin Besieged pre-release. With that said, this is the time for SPOILERS! ūüėÄ We got roughly half of this small set spoiled over the past week, the rest of the cards to be revealed soon during this next week. Now I would like to share my 5 favorite preview cards from the past week with 5 more to come on Friday’s article. Keep in mind I haven’t played with any of these yet and my opinion is open to change as I experiment with the new cards in the format. I might find some hidden gems, or cards that look good now may become utter crap. So let’s get started!

Duke Nukem Forever. No, really.

January 23, 2011

Now, I’m as excitable as the next guy – possibly more so. When I heard that Duke Nukem forever was coming back, I was excited enough to yell “HELL YEAH!” and scare the crap out of my sleeping roommate. Of course, that was a couple months ago, so my excitement had ebbed slightly since then. This trailer rekindled my childish passion and then some.

Can You Dig It?

January 20, 2011

Nerd is the Word 005 - Can You Dig It?

Recently, someone decided to pay homage to Wile E. Coyote and the entire Acme gadget company and tunnel into a GameStop, ridding it of the burden of selling games. I fully understand that the aforementioned selling of games is only half of their operation, and that the other half is the tacit role of “pawn shop,” but still, stealing tangible items is something most people, myself included, consider a no-no.¬† Mining the Internet for crates full of mp3’s, however, is something I’ll look the other way on, provided your musical tastes are in check.

As you can no doubt tell, the comic has taken a turn for the Penny Arcadian. Chad and I are in no way trying to be a PA cover band, but if this new approach causes you to re-read your copy of Attack of the Bacon Robots, nobody will scold you. Without sounding like too much of a no-talent fanboy, I will say this: Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins motivate and (dare I say it) inspire me, and with more than just their blog posts and comics. They purvey an honesty that I’ve never seen with any other webcomic artisans. I’ve met other webcomic artists who make their work seem like just that: work. And that shit is straight up depressing. Mike & Jerry seem to understand that this business is more than just “here’s a .jpeg with a dick joke, now buy some shirts”; there’s a mutual respect between them and their readers which I feel unequivocally contributes to their success.

Much in the way Rock Band gives people a glimpse of the rewards of musical dedication (sans the booze and whores), PA gives artists a glimpse of the rewards of artistic integrity and dedication (sans the booze and whores).

Introduction of the Third Wheel

January 18, 2011

Hey everybody!

(Hi, Dr. Nick.)

If you’re reading this, you might be wondering who the hell I am. That’s good. I wonder that sometimes too. I think that in the great game of strip poker called Life, it’s necessary to reexamine your hand once in a while. It’s useful to double-check if you actually have that straight flush or if you’d better start unhooking your suspenders. In any case, back to the introduction.

The honorable lords Quazo and Chadster are looking to expand their combined media empire. As such, they approached me to see if I’d like to join them in this blog. I happily consented. I’m a little curious as to where I actually fit in here. I mean, Quazo and Chadster are like Batman and Robin, only I’m pretty sure that Batman and Robin never had a blog, which gives Q&Ch the edge. Does this make me Nightwing, or am I just on the level of Batzarro, the World’s Worst Detective? Who knows? I certainly don’t…so I’ll fill in with a monologue.

Kaboom! A caper, a combined carnival of clowns that cares not for codes or creeds. My cranium, no mere can of corn, is a crown of communicative curiosities, now caped, cowled. However, this collected combination of a carven clasp stands closed, and has conspired to create a country of common courage, callous courtesy, clean cabs, and cowardly curs curtailed! The only comfort is caffeine; a conspiracy held as a candle, not like cabbage, for the clans and cabals of such shall one day call clarion and cleave the confusing canopy. Clearly, this concoction of concatenation clutters the air, so let me add that it is my complete pleasure to meet you and you may call me Cleftes.

And yes, I am, like, a crazy person.

The Top 10 Lists of 2010!

January 4, 2011

I will be counting down my “Top Ten Best Movies of The Decade (2001 – 2010)” AND my “Top Ten Best Games of The Year (2010)” so I won’t dick around because I want to get straight into these lists!

^ That was the original idea here, but I’m going to make a few changes now. I will be condensing them to Top 5s because I am a very indecisive person.

The top 5 flicks that really made an impact on me personally in the past decade. Every single one of them I hold dear to me in one way or another and will really influence me as I become a filmmaker. I knew a definite top would become way too debatible and I want to avoid it. Anyway, I’m gonna skip any more idle chatter and get started.
